During the Season

Scheduling: All game assignments will be done through the KLLBA.ca website.
Umpires need to regularly log in and enter either their "availability" or their "unavailability" in the system - this shows the master scheduler whether you are available or not. Specific dates and times can be indicated (for example, I am unavailable Tuesday the 19th from 6-8pm (perhaps you have your own game)), or general dates and times (for example, every Tuesday from 5:30 to 9pm I am available). Note that the default (if you do nothing) is that you are NOT available and you will hence get no assignments.
The Umpire Scheduler will generally go into each system early in the week (Sunday or Monday) and assign umpires to all games in the system for the next 2 week period. So please update your availability by Sunday dinner time for the next 2 week period. Near the beginning of each season (early May, early July) the schedules are more unpredictable/being formed, so assignments will be done DAILY.
Umpires have the option to "decline" assignments. Please do so as soon as practical, in no case less than 48 hours before a game. No shows for assignments are not good.
The scheduler' goal is to make NO changes to the schedule within 48 hours of a game. Sickness is the only valid excuse for missing a game you are scheduled for. If a "last minute" assignment occurs (within the 48 hour period), the scheduler will email you to ask if you are still available and await a confirmation email in response before assigning you. Coaches are asked to give at least 48 hours notice of a newly scheduled game.
This year we will also have games on weeknights and many games on weekends for the OBA Teams, please ensure you indicate your availability for weekends and weeknights as well if you are 13 or older.
Assignments: umpires should arrive at site at least 15 minutes prior to game time. No shows should be reported to the umpire scheduler, please also ask the home coach to report them as well. We will always strive to assign 2 umpires per game, and you will normally umpire up to the age group below your current age. Each ball diamond will have plate umpire apparel (mask, balloon pad, shin pads).
Inclement Weather: Games are always ON unless notified of cancellation via the system to your email. If general cancellations occur (diamond will not be in shape to play) the home coach or convenor is authorized to 'postpone' the game prior to 1 hour prior to game time. If you have not received notice of cancellation prior to 1 hour before game start, the game is on. At the site, the umpire becomes responsible for any further actions. Prior to game time the umpire should consult with both head coaches if there are any issues and render a decision; once the game has begun the umpire is the only one who can either delay or cancel the game. Proper protocol must be observed, especially for "lightning" situations.
