Little League Program
Updated Tuesday June 20, 2017 by Kanata Baseball Association.Spring 2017 Cost: $200 (after March 20th, $225)
Summer 2017 Cost: $150
This program is for players which are "League Age" 9-12 according to the Little League Age Chart 2017. In Ottawa this program is split into two Seasons: Spring and Summer.
All coaches are instructed to follow a strict guideline for pitch counts and associated rest periods in order to protect young and developing pitching arms. These guidelines are set out by Little League in cooperation with sports and medical authorities across North America. A pitch count tracker form is attached below.
Spring Season
Registration runs from January to March with sort-outs in April. The 12 game Reguar Season games run through May and June. All games are played at local fields in our region which includes Kanata, Stittsville, and surrounding areas with games being played in house.
Division | League Age | Description |
Major | 11-12 | All 12 year olds will be in the Major division along with the stronger 11 year olds based on their evaluations scores at sort-outs. |
10/11 | 10-11 | Stronger 10 year olds and most 11 year olds will be in the 10/11 division and will play by the Major division rules. |
Minor | 9-10 | All 9 year olds and most 10 year olds will be in the Minor division and will play by the Minor division rules. |
Teams can expect two games per week during various weeknights with one practice time during the weekends.
Summer Season
Teams from Kanata play in the Ottawa Summer Interlock league with teams from other Ottawa area Little Leagues. Each local league contributes teams which then play an interlocking schedule. Interlock divisions are tiered into differing levels of play based on ability and grouped by age.
All players from Spring ball are eligible and encouraged to play Summer ball. As school is not in session, there tends to be more time to spend on skills development and team building. New players who did not play in Spring are also eligible to play Summer house ball if there is room on teams for them.
Tournament Teams
Kanata has the opportunity to provide All-Star teams for entry into Little League Tournament. While the Tournament games are in the Summer timeframe, qualification for these teams come from participation in the Spring regular season.
Our intention is to field All-Star teams at every level: Minor, 10/11 and Major. The Minor tournament starts with the District 2 playdowns and continues on to Provincials. Major culminates in the Canadian and World Series Championships for successful teams. The 10/11 diivision may have a District level tournament if the other local leagues cooperate.
