Scheduling Practices/Rescheduling Games
Updated Thursday April 30, 2015 by Kanata Little League.Rescheduling Games:
Games must be rescheduled as soon as practical, preferably on the following Friday or weekend after the rainout. If this is not done there is great risk that games will bunch up near the end of the season, and there is NO ROOM for the season to be extended in length. Little League regulations require that our regular season be at least 12 games in length.
If your game was "rained out" it will appear in the KLLBA.CA scheduling system in red with no date next to it (when coach signs into the system, access game and schedule manager). To reschedule, click on the link and pick a new date and time. Note if your preferred date and time is not listed, then we do not have access to the field. The umpire scheduler will see the game on his schedule and will assign umpires, but best to send him an email to remind him if the game is scheduled within 4 days (send to [email protected]). The umpire scheduler WILL NOT even attempt to assign an umpire within 48 hours of notification as it is not fair to either him or his umpires to react on that short notice. Coaches are free to try to arrange their own umpires in this circumstance but will not have access to listings of umpires.
Scheduling New Games:
Convenors have the authority to schedule new games, please go through them.
Practices
Practices may be booked through the KLLBA.CA system by the head coach of a team, All fields available are listed on the system, and the coach needs to go into the "schedule manager" portion of the system and book a date and time. Note: in some divisions, particularly in Spring the Head Coach has not been given the authority to schedule own practices. The division Convenor has full authority to do so, please go through him or her to schedule your spring practices. Note that practice bookings are subject to bumping for rescheduled games, and, equalization - summer teams in particular must share the "good" fields appropriately - it is not first come first served or A team gets the better field. If the field time is not listed, then we do not have a contract with the city for that time. Also, we will be returning many fields to the city as in general our contracted resources have been very underutilized.
In Spring, it is recommended that Convenors pre-schedule practices at the beginning of the season for house teams, where practical. It is recommended that Spring practices be made up of 2 teams on a field at a time.
Past practice has given excessive choice to coaches for practice times. As a result, KLLBA has "burned" several hundred hours of diamond time per year, at increasing expense to the league. Choice of practice times will be more limited in 2013 in order to manage this expense. Please be flexible, and endeavour to cooperate with fellow coaches by scheduling joint practices for Spring House season where practical, and being equitable with all other Summer teams for any shared facilities during the Summer. Summer "A" teams have priority on practice times only during the week before their District Championships, at all other times the access to fields shall be equitable.
For Spring House, several division wide "skills clinics" will be scheduled for all players in that division. All division coaches are expected to help run these sessions. These sessions prove to be an effective way to teach individual baseball skills to the variously skilled players that play in the Spring House league.
Practices may be "bumped" in order to fit in re-scheduled/rainout games. Please ensure this is communicated to involved parties as soon as possible.
