Little League Cancels the Big League Division
Big League is no longer a program
Updated Saturday December 24, 2016 by Kanata Baseball Association. In September 2016, Little League International announced the Discontinuance of its Big League Baseball and Softball Divisions, which serviced players of league age 17 and 18, starting with the 2017 season. The announcement can be found here: http://www.littleleague.org/media/llnewsarchive/2016/May-August/Little-League-International-Restructures-its-Teenage-Divisions.htm
Kanata Baseball is disappointed with this development which effectively makes Little League programs available only for players aged 4-16. We have offered Big League for over 20 years, including our 2005 Big League Canadian Championship team. We intend to investigate offerings which will allow us to offer programs to the youth of our community up until they finish high school. Two such possible programs will be investigated: 1) an effort by Little League Canada to offer a Canadian only Big League type program, which would NOT be endorsed by Little League International; and/or 2) Baseball Ontario based Midget programs.
The league executive expects that further information will be available early in 2017 which will allow our players to plan for the coming season.
