KBA Announces Registration Details and Program Changes for the upcoming 2017 Season

KANATA, ONT – 17 February 2017

Registration is now open for Spring season programs (May and June). Sortouts for all divisions will take place April 14th, 15th, and 22nd (schedules to be posted early April). Register early to avoid dissapointment - Baseball has become very popular in our region (38% increase last year) which will cause us to close programs after registration is full.

In an effort to continuously improve our programs, Kanata Baseball is pleased to announce that for the 2017 season, a number of changes are taking place.  The following outlines summarizes the programs registering now for the Spring season:

Rally Cap (for players born between Sept. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2013)
Rookie Division is now included in Rally Cap
This division will be sorted into three Tiers of play based on player rankings at sort-outs.  Tier 1 will be an intensified Rookie program, Tier 3 will be an entry level program, Tier 2 will be a progression inbetween. Teams will play at multiple diamonds throughout the region.

Little League (for players born between May 1, 2004 and Aug. 31, 2008)
Formerly Minor and Major Divisions
Players will be tiered into 3 groups: 9/10, 10/11, 11/12 based on age and sort-out rankings.  9/10 is the Minor program, 11/12 is the Major program and 10/11 is the newly inserted program in between. This allows a program that balances factors of age and ability in a Little League conforming structure.

Senior League (for players born between May 1, 2000 and April 30, 2004)
Formerly Junior and Senior Divisions
Senior will be played on a 60/90 diamond, Junior will be on a 54/80 diamond. Allocation of players into the different divisions will be determined based on registration and sort-outs.  Senior teams will participate in Interlock play throughout the city.

Q1: What happened to the 4 month programs?
A1: While we loved the 4 month program concept, it is very awkward to deliver when the summer Interlock is taken into account. Given this constraint, we have made the "full season" concept part of the Competitive Rep program and kept the house program 2 months of spring. There will be reformulated teams for the Summer season.

Q2: Will there be Little League All-Star Teams?
A2: We intend to have All-Star teams for every division Minor, Major, Junior, Senior where there is coach and player intent. We are also petitioning D2 to have a 10/11 District Tournament.
