6pm – 8:00pm, 2 weeknights per week. There have historically been 8-10 teams of 10-14 players. “Games” are played at Diamonds located in the Katimavik area of Kanata – Katimavik School and Shearer Park.
Note: Rookie level baseball will continue until the end of July in some form. Teams may be re-formed in July based on player availability. Some teams may optionally enter local weekend tournament(s) during July. Commitment for July is optional, but is included in basic registration fees.
From 6-6:30 coaches work on basic skills with their team, and from 6:30 to 8pm a game is played between 2 teams. A spring loaded pitching catapult is used to pitch to the players, and outs are recorded with “innings” being played to 3 outs or 5 runs in. Keeping score is de-emphasized, and the prime goal is to continue to develop baseball skills and knowledge. All players will “field” defensively, and a rotating full batting order is used. Usually there is a “fun day” organized for all teams in mid to late June, on a weekend.
Equipment
Players require running shoes, track pants or baseball pants (no shorts please), a baseball glove, a batting helmet and a jock or jill. Baseballs, bats and other appropriate equipment is supplied by the league, including a Team T-Shirt which can be kept by the player. Some players will wear baseball shoes, but it is not mandatory.
